Reconstruction of the
Gurston Ashes 23-07-2018 formation
1. Draw a circle. Draw the horizontal and vertical centerlines.
2. Construct the inscribed dodecagon (regular 12-sided polygon) of circle 1, pointing to the right.
3. Construct the inscribed circle of dodecagon 2.
4. Construct the inscribed square of circle 3, pointing to the right.
5. Construct the inscribed hexagon (regular 6-sided polygon) of circle 3, pointing to the right.
6. Construct the inscribed nonagon (regular 9-sided polygon) of circle 3, pointing to the right.
7. Call the top of square 4: A, its righthand angular point: B, the lower righthand angular point of hexagon 5: C, and the leftmost upper angular point of nonagon 6: D.
Draw two connecting lines, between A and D, and between C and D.
8. Construct a circle centered at C, passing through the lower righthand intersections of hexagon 5 and nonagon 6.
9. Copy circle 8 to the center of circle 1.
10. Copy circle 8 three times, to A, B, and D.
11. Construct four lines, parallel to the sides of, and inside quadrangle ABCD, tangent to circles 8 and 10, as shown.
12. Construct a circle centered at A, passing through the intersection of the upper righthand side of square 4 and the upper lefthand side of nonagon 6.
13. Copy circle 12 three times, to B, C, and D.
14. Construct four lines, similar to lines 11, but tangent to circles 12 and 13.
15. Construct a circle centered at A, passing through the intersection of the upper righthand side of square 4 and the upper side of hexagon 5.
16. Copy circle 15 to the center of circle 1.
17. Construct a circle centered at A, tangent to circle 1 at the upper side.
18. Copy circle 17 to the righthand intersection of circle 16 and the horizontal centerline.
19. Construct a circle concentric to circle 1, tangent to circle 18 at the lefthand side.
20. Circles 1, 9, 16, and 19, square 4, hexagon 6, and lines 7, 11, and 14, are used for the final reconstruction.
21. Remove all parts not visible within the formation itself.
