Reconstruction of the
The Rollright Stones 5-08-2017 formation
1. Draw a circle. Draw and extend the horizontal and vertical centerlines.
2. Construct the inscribed octagon (regular 8-sided polygon) of circle 1, pointing up.
3. Draw the eight diagonals of octagon 2, from each angular point to every third angular point, as shown.
4. Construct the inscribed square of circle 1, with horizontal and vertical sides.
5. Draw the eight diagonals of the octagon enclosed by diagonals 3, from each angular point to every third angular point, as shown.
6. Construct the inscribed circle of (the octagon enclosed by) diagonals 5.
7. Copy circle 6 to the top of octagon 2.
8. Construct a circle concentric to circle 1, tangent to circle 7 at the upper side.
9. Construct the inscribed square of the circumscribed circle of the octagon enclosed by diagonals 3, with horizontal and vertical sides.
10. Construct a circle centered at the mid-point of the righthand side of square 9, tangent to circle 6 at the righthand side.
11. Copy circle 10 to the center of circle 1.
12. Construct the inscribed circle of the octagon enclosed by diagonals 3.
13. Copy circle 12 to the lower intersection of circle 7 and the vertical centerline.
14. Construct a circle concentric to circle 1, tangent to circle 13 at the upper side.
15. Construct a circle centered at the mid-point of the upper side of square 9, passing through the upper intersections of diagonals 5, as shown.
16. Copy circle 15 to the upper intersection of circle 8 and the vertical centerline.
17. Construct a circle concentric to circle 1, tangent to circle 16 at the lower side.
18. Circles 6, 8, 11, 14, and 17, diagonals 3, and square 4, together, make up the final reconstruction.
