Reconstruction of the
Andechs Abbey (Germany) 29-07-2012 formation

1. Draw a circle. Draw and extend the horizontal and vertical centerlines.

2. Construct the inscribed dodecagon (regular 12-sided polygon) of circle 1, pointing up. Number the angular points clockwise, from the top, 1 - 12.

3. Draw the diagonals of dodecagon 2 from every angular point to every fifth angular point.

4. Construct a "two-points" circle (defined by the two end-points of a centerline) between angular points 1 and 2.

5. Construct the inscribed hexagon (regular six-sided polygon) of circle 4, with one angular point coincident with an angular point of dodecagon 2.

6. Construct a circle concentric to circle 1, passing through the outer angular points of hexagon 5.

7. Construct a circle passing through the set of innermost intersections of diagonals 3.

8. Construct the inscribed hexagon of circle 7, pointing up.

9. Construct the inscribed circle of hexagon 8.

10. Draw a line from the center of circle 1 to the intersection of diagonals (between angular points) 2-7 and 3-10.

11. Construct a circle centered at the intersection of line 10 and diagonal 5-12, tangent to circle 9 at the near side. See detail.

12. Copy circle 11 two times, to angular points nrs. 5 and 12 of dodecagon 2.

13. Construct a line parallel to diagonal 5-12, tangent to circles 12 at the lower lefthand sides.

14. Repeat step 13 eleven times, with respect to the other eleven diagonals 3.

15. Draw diagonal 1-9.

16. Draw the eleven other corresponding diagonals.

17. Draw diagonal 1-10.

18. Draw the eleven other corresponding diagonals.

19. Draw a line from angular point nr. 1 to the intersection of diagonals 2-7 and 4-11.

20. Draw a line from angular point nr. 1 to the intersection of diagonals 2-7 and 3-11.

21. Repeat steps 19 and 20 eleven times, with respect to the other eleven angular points of dodecagon 2.

22. Circles 1 and 6, and lines 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20 and 21, are used for the final reconstruction.

23. Remove all parts not visible within the formation itself.
