Reconstruction of the
Barton Le Clay 14-08-2008 formation
1. Draw a circle. Draw and extend the horizontal and vertical centerlines.
2. Construct two inscribed pentagons (regular 5-sided polygons) of circle 1, one pointing up, one down.
3. Draw the ten rays of pentagons 2, from the center of circle one to the angular points. Number the rays counterclockwise from 1 for the righthand one just above the horizontal centerline to 10 for the righthand one just below it, as shown.
4. Construct the inscribed circle of pentagons 2.
5. Construct a circle (concentric to circle 1), passing through the mutual intersections of pentagons 2.
6. Construct a circle centered at the lower intersection of circle 4 and the vertical centerline, tangent to circle 5 at the lower side.
7. Construct a circle concentric to circle 1, tangent to circle 6 at the upper side.
8. Copy circle 6 to the lower intersection of circle 1 and the vertical centerline.
9. Construct a "two-points" circle, defined by the end-points of a centerline (diameter), between the upper intersections of circles 5 and 8 with the vertical centerline.
10. Copy circle 6 to the upper intersection of circle 5 and the vertical centerline.
11. Construct a "two-points" circle, between the upper intersections of circles 8 and 10 with the vertical centerline.
12. Construct a circle centered at the righthand intersection of circle 11, passing through the righthand intersection of circle 9, both with the horizontal centerline.
13. Copy circle 12 to the lower intersection of circle 8 and the vertical centerline. Move this circle (copy and delete original) to its own corresponding intersection. See detail.
14. Construct a circle concentric to circle 1, passing through the center of circle 13.
15. Copy circle 6 to the lefthand intersection of circles 13 and 14.
16. Copy circle 12 to the lefthand intersection of circles 14 and 15. See detail.
17. Copy circle 6 to the center of circle 11.
18. Construct two circles, centered at the intersections of circle 17 and rays 3 nrs. 7 and 9 respectively, both passing through the upper intersection of circle 5 and the vertical centerline.
19. Draw the connecting line between the intersections of circle 9 with rays 3 nrs. 2 and 4.
20. Construct a circle concentric to circle 1, tangent to line 19.
21. Construct the inscribed pentagon of circle 20, pointing up.
22. Draw the connecting line between the intersections of circle 11 with the upper lefthand and righthand sides of pentagon 2 pointing down.
23. Construct a circle concentric to circle 1, tangent to line 22.
24. Construct the inscribed pentagon of circle 23, pointing up.
25. Draw the connecting line between the lower lefthand and righthand angular points of pentagon 2 pointing down.
26. Construct a circle concentric to circle 1, passing through the intersections of line 25 with rays 3 nrs. 7 and 9.
27. Construct the inscribed pentagram (regular 5-pointed star) of circle 26, by drawing the (five) connecting lines between its intersections with rays 3 nrs. 1 and 5, 3 and 7, 5 and 9, 7 and 1, and 9 and 3 respectively, as shown.
28. Construct the circumscribed pentagon of circle 26, pointing up.
29. Construct a circle concentric to circle 1, passing through the intersection of the lower righthand side of pentagon 24 and the horizontal centerline.
30. Construct the inscribed pentagon of circle 29, pointing up.
31. Construct the circumscribed circle of pentagon 28.
32. Draw the connecting line between the intersections of circle 31 with rays 3 nrs. 1 and 10.
33. Construct a circle concentric to circle 1, tangent to line 32.
34. Construct the inscribed pentagram of circle 33, in a similar way as pentagram 27, now with respect to circle 33 in stead of circle 26.
35. Copy circle 12 to the intersection of the lower side of pentagon 28 and the vertical centerline.
36. Copy circle 12 six times, the first to the upper intersection of circle 35 and the vertical centerline, the others consecutively to the corresponding intersection of the previously copied circle. See detail.
37. Construct six temporary circles concentric to circle 1, passing through the centers of circles 36; subsequently, construct the six circumscribed pentagons of these circles, all pointing up.
38. Construct the inscribed circle of the innermost pentagon 37.
39. Construct a circle concentric to circle 38 (and 1), tangent to the uppermost circle 36 at the upper side.
40. Construct a "two-points" circle, between the lower intersections of circles 38 and 39 with the vertical centerline.
41. Copy circle 40 to the upper righthand angular point of pentagon 21 (on ray 3 nr. 1).
42. Copy circle 40 to the upper righthand angular point of pentagram 34.
43. Draw two lines, parallel to ray 3 nr. 1, tangent at both sides to circles 41 and 42.
44. Repeat steps 41, 42 and 43 four times, with respect to rays 3 nrs. 3, 5, 7 and 9.
45. Draw a line parallel to the side of pentagram 34 running from angular point on ray 3 nr. 1 to that on nr. 7, from the upper intersection of the lower righthand side and the lefthand intersection of the lower side of pentagon 28 with lines 43 and 44. See details.
46. Repeat step 45 four times, for corresponding intersections with respect to the other sides of pentagram 34, as shown.
47. Draw three lines perpendicular to the lower sides of pentagons 37, between the first and second, third and fourth, and fifth and sixth lower sides, each with the upper end-point on line 45, as shown.
48. Repeat step 47 for the "opposite ends" of the lower sides, mirrored with respect to the vertical centerline, as shown.
49. Repeat steps 47 and 48 four times, for all other sides of pentagons 37, as shown.
50. Draw a line from the center of circle 1 to the lefthand intersection of circle 33 and the lower side of pentagon 30, and extend it down to (the lower side of) pentagon 24.
51. Repeat step 50 four times, with respect to the other sides of pentagons 30 and 24 and the corresponding intersections, as shown.
52. Draw a line from the center of circle 1 to the righthand intersection of circle 33 and the lower side of pentagon 30.
53. Repeat step 52 four times, with respect to the other sides of pentagon 30 and the corresponding intersections, as shown.
54. Circles 1, 4, 5, 7, 9, 11, 16, 18, 38 and 39, pentagons 21, 24, 28, 30 and 37, pentagrams 27 and 34, and lines 43, 44, 47, 48, 49, 50, 51, 52 and 53, are all used for the final reconstruction.
55. Remove all redundant parts, not visible in the formation itself.
