Reconstruction of theBoreham Down 22-06-2005 formation 1. Draw a circle. Draw and extend the horizontal and vertical centerlines. 2. Construct the circumscribed square of circle 1, sides horizontal and vertical. 3. Copy circle 1 to the upper lefthand angular point of square 2. 4. Construct the circumscribed square of circle 3, sides horizontal and vertical. 5. Copy circle 1 to the upper lefthand angular point of square 4. 6. Copy circle 1 to the lower righthand angular point of square 2. 7. Copy circle 1 two times, to the lower lefthand angular points of squares 2 and 4. 8. Construct the circumscribed squares of circles 7, sides horizontal and vertical. 9. Copy circle 1 two times, to the lower lefthand angular points of squares 8. 10. Construct the inscribed octagon (regular 8-sided polygon) of circle 1, pointing to the right. 11. Construct the inscribed circle of octagon 10. 12. Copy circle 11 five times, to the centers of circles 3, 5, 6 and 7. 13. Copy circle 11 two times, to the centers of circles 9. 14. Construct the circumscribed square of circle 5, sides horizontal and vertical. 15. Copy circle 1 to the middle of the upper side of square 14 (upper tangent point of circle 5 to square 14). 16. Construct the circumscribed square of circle 6, sides horizontal and vertical. 17. Copy circle 1 to the middle of the righthand side of square 16 (righthand tangent point of circle 6 to square 16). 18. Draw two connecting lines, one between the intersections of circles 5 and 15, the other between the intersections of circles 6 and 17. Extend the first to the right, the latter upward, until they intersect, as shown. 19. Using the intersection of (extended) lines 18 as a center, copy circles 11 and 12 as one set three times, and distribute these three sets evenly around this center into the other three quadrants, as shown. 20. Using the intersection of (extended) lines 18 as a center, copy circles 13 as one set three times, and distribute these three sets evenly around this center into the other three quadrants, as shown. 21. Draw the horizontal lines, tangent at the upper and lower sides of all circles 11, 12, 13, 19 and 20, except for the uppermost and lowermost sides. "Number" the pairs of mutually close lines from top to bottom a through h. As shown. 22. Draw the vertical lines, tangent at the lefthand and righthand sides of all circles 11, 12, 13, 19 and 20, except for the leftmost and rightmost sides. Number the pairs of mutually close lines from left to right 1 through 8. As shown. 23. Construct a circle, centered at the upper right angular point of the small square, enclosed by lines 21 and 22 at crossing a4, passing through the upper left angular point of the same square, as shown. 24. Copy circle 23 five times, to the upper left angular points of squares at a5 and e1, to the upper right angular point of square at e8, to the lower left angular point of square at h5, and to the lower right angular point of square at h4. 25. Copy circle 23 eight times, to the upper left angular points of squares at b6 and f2, to the upper right angular points of squares at b3 and f7, to the lower left angular points of squares at c2 and g6, and to the lower right angular points of squares at c7 and g3. 26. Copy circle 23 two times, to the upper left angular point of square at d1, and to the upper right angular point of square at d8. 27. Draw four horizontal lines, tangent to circles at a4 and a5, and to circles at b3 and b6, all at the upper sides, and tangent to circles at h4 and h5, and to circles at g3 and g6, all at the lower sides. 28. Draw four vertical lines, tangent to circles at d1 and e1, and to circles at c2 and f2, all at the lefthand sides, and tangent to circles at d8 and e8, and to circles at c7 and f7, all at the righthand sides. 29. Draw a horizontal line, tangent to circles at d1 and d8, both at the upper sides. 30. Construct a circle centered at the intersection of (extended) lines 18, passing through the lower lefthand angular point of the square at a1. 31. Circles 11, 12, 19, 23, 24, 25, 26 and 30, and lines 21, 22, 27, 28 and 29, together make up the constituent parts for the final reconstruction. 32.
