Reconstruction of the
Sompting (2) 28-06-2002 formation

1. Draw a circle. Draw the horizontal and vertical centerlines.

2. Construct the circumscribed hexagram (regular 6-pointed star) of circle 1. It consists of two circumscribed equilateral triangles, one pointing up, one pointing down.

3. Construct the inscribed hexagram of circle 1, consisting of two inscribed equilateral triangles, again one pointing up and one pointing down.

4. Construct a circle defined by three points: the lower right angular point of hexagram 2 and both upper left intersections of the triangles constituting hexagram 3, as shown.

5. Every hexagram encloses six smaller equilateral triangles, constituting the star-points. Construct the inscribed circle of the equilateral triangle constituting the lower right star-point of hexagram 3, as shown.

6. Construct a circle concentric to circle 1, passing through the center of circle 5.

7. Copy circle 6 to the center of circle 4.

8. Copy circle 5 to the center of circle 1.

9. Construct a circle concentric to circle 7, tangent to circle 8 at the near side.

10. Draw the connecting line between the center of circle 6 (and 1) and the lower right angular point of hexagram 2.

11. Construct a circle centered at the lower right intersection of circle 7 and line 10, tangent to circle 9 at the near side.

12. Copy circle 11 to the lower right angular point of hexagram 2.

13. Construct a circle concentric to circle 4, tangent to circle 12 at the near side.

14. Copy circles 4, 7, 9 and 13 two times and distribute the 3 sets of circles in total evenly around the center of circle 6 (and 1).

15. Circles 4, 7, 9, 13 and 14 form the basis for the reconstruction.

16. Leave out all parts not visible in the formation.
