Reconstruction of the
Normanton Down 4-07-2002 formation

1. Draw a circle. Draw the horizontal and vertical centerlines.

2. Construct a circle centered at the right end-point of the horizontal centerline, with a radius equal to the diameter of circle 1.

3. Extend the horizontal centerline up to circle 2, to the right.

4. Copy circle 2 to the right end-point of line 3. (Circles 2 and 4 form a Vesica Pisces: two circles of the same size going through their mutual centers).

5. Construct the circumscribed hexagon (regular 6-sided polygon) of circle 1, pointing up.

6. Construct the circumscribed circle of hexagon 5.

7. Construct a circle concentric to circle 4, tangent to circle 6 at the near side.

8. Copy circle 7 to the center of circle 2.

9. Extend the horizontal centerline up to circle 4, to the right.

10. Copy circles 4 and 7 to the intersection of line 9 and circle 7.

11. Extend the horizontal centerline up to the outer circle 10 (copied circle 4), to the right.

12. Copy circles 2 and 8 to the right end-point of line 11.

13. Extend the horizontal centerline up to the outer circle 12 (copied circle 2), to the right.

14. Copy circles 2, 4, 7 and 8 from the center of circle 2 to the intersection of line 13 and the inner circle 12 (copied circle 8).

15. Extend the horizontal centerline up to the rightmost outer circle 14 (copied circle 4), to the right.

16. Construct a circle with the end-points of its centerline at the intersections of line 15 and the leftmost circles 14 (copied circles 2 and 8).

17. Repeat this for the rightmost circles 14 (copied circles 4 and 7).

18. Construct a line tangent to both circles 16 and 17 at the upper side (1). Repeat this for the same circles at the lower side (2). Extend the lower line in both directions up to the outer rightmost and the inner leftmost circles 14 (3).

19. Circles 2, 4, 7, 8, 10, 12 and 14 and lines 18 together form the basis for the reconstruction of one "arm" of the formation.

20. Copy circles and lines 19 five times (6 in total) and rotate them evenly around the center of circle 1.

21. Remove all parts not visible in the formation...
